* samlak Most often we concentrate on how we are going to raise our daughters to be best wife/mother to her children/husbands. We teach them how to be respectful, how to take care of a home, how to take care of her husband. At the end of the day, nobody is teaching our sons how to treat their wives right. How to respect a woman, be supportive and caring.
Often time’s in many homes, it’s the daughters that are made to be responsible. They are given various task to handle while the sons loaf around. It’s high time we start training and raising our sons to be responsible and also learning how to respect the women.
The short fall of this lack of home training it’s a reflection of what is going on in the society today. Different cases of domestic violence, condescending and derogatory remarks made against women.
we have spent a lot of time thinking about how we are going to raise our daughters. To stand up against these elements of our culture that are too often working against them.
One of the most powerful ways we can help our daughters lies not in how we raise them, but in how we raise our sons.
Because there’s only so much we girls and women can do to secure our own equality, safety, and forward momentum. In the end, we need strong, respectful men on our side.
How do we raise our sons to be one of those men?
Walk the Talk
I’ve heard it said that when it comes to what kids learn from their parents, more is caught than taught.
Our sons needs to see the male figures in their lives— dads, grandpas, teachers, coaches—modeling what respect for women looks like. And they need to see female figures who expect to be treated fairly and kindly.
That way respecting women just seems like the normal way for men to behave, even if it’s not totally the norm in our society just yet.
What’s more, we need to be conscious of the way we treat and talk about other women. If we are constantly tearing other women down instead of building them up—the way we women too often do—we are teaching our sons to follow suit.
Respect Starts with Self
Perhaps the most important thing we parents can do to teach our sons to respect girls and women? First teach them to respect themselves.
Boys need to have their confidence and self-esteem built up just as much as girls do.
And when we teach boys to be kind to both themselves and others, that leads to the ultimate lesson: Respect isn’t just a male-female thing. Respect is a human thing.
