* samlak Why Sweden imports waste from other countries
I came across this article on palmchat and this left me wondering. We live in a country where wastes dump sites are more than the number of industries and yet Sweden has declared an intention to start importing wastes.
It will interest you to know that Sweden has run out of waste and the Scandinavian country has announced it's intention to import wastes from other countries of the world just to be able to keep the country going.
If you are as confused as I was, Here are reasons why Sweden ventured into waste importation.
1. Sweden sources half of it's electricity from renewables:
They generate half of the electricity from recycled waste materials.
2. Sweden generates heat from wastes.
Anna-Carin Gripwall, Director of Communications for Avfall Sverige, the Swedish Waste Management's recycling association said;
"Swedish people are quite keen on being out in nature and they are aware of what we need do on nature and environmental issues. We worked on communications for a long time to make people aware not to throw things outdoors so that we can recycle and reuse,"
Sweden have been importing wastes from countries like Norway and England. These countries pay Sweden to take care of their waste even as Sweden use it to generate heat and electricity.
Presently, Sweden recycling plants need to go on working and it has a shortage of waste,
